Collect Tranquility in Brushstrokes

Impressionistic Nature Paintings by Maureen Kelly

If you’ve ever paused to take in the golden light just before sunset, or felt the quiet hush of a still lake at dawn β€” you already know the feeling I capture in my work.

I create impressionistic landscape paintings inspired by the natural world. Each piece is rooted in color, light, and emotion, offering a glimpse into fleeting moments that invite peace, reflection, and presence.

Using oils, acrylics, and watercolor, I paint what I want to rememberβ€”and what I hope you'll remember, too: that beauty is always around us, waiting to be seen.

Whether you’re here to explore, to collect, or just to take a breathβ€”I’m so glad you’ve arrived. Welcome.

Light Through the Dark β€” a new series within my Moments of Light collection exploring how illumination softens stillness and reveals renewal in its wake.

β€œEach painting is a pause in the noiseβ€”a breath of calm, reminding us that beauty still lingers in quiet waters, golden light, and the hush between trees.”

Now Featured: β€œLight Through the Dark”

I’ve updated my Moments of Light collection with a new series that explores how illumination transforms stillness β€” those quiet thresholds between dusk and dawn, storm and calm. These new works reflect themes of reflection, resilience, and renewal β€” moments where light returns softly, and the world exhales again.

I was drawn to the contrast of bold color against fading light β€” how the poppies seemed to hold the last warmth of the day. Painting this, I felt that mix of energy and stillness that comes at dusk, when the world glows for just a moment before resting. The petals were built with soft brushwork and glazes of crimson and rose layered over dusky greens and golds. I wanted to capture that brief moment when the sun’s last touch makes even the simplest field seem alive with light. It’s about gratitude for impermanence β€” the beauty that happens just before nightfall.

This triptych was created as a reflection on renewal β€” the way dawn feels like a promise kept. I painted each panel as part of one slow awakening, where the horizon softens and light gently returns. Layering thin glazes of rose, blue, and gold, I tried to build a feeling rather than a scene β€” the stillness before the day begins. Working across three canvases allowed the light to move naturally, as if the viewer were standing within it. It’s a quiet, hopeful piece β€” about beginnings, balance, and the moment light returns after darkness.

This painting began as a meditation on twilight β€” that fleeting edge between day and night when everything seems to hold its breath. I wanted to paint the hush of the sea as it reflects the fading light, a whisper between what was and what’s yet to come. Thin, translucent layers of color allowed me to build softness and depth, giving the sky and water a shared language of light. It’s a quiet conversation between elements, one that mirrors how I often feel in those in-between hours β€” calm, aware, and connected to something larger than myself.
